This year’s Asian5Nations poster boy is Austin Dacanay , affectionately referred to as “Lolo” because of his status as one of the team veterans. Here he is in his own words. 1. You’ve been a…
well, its that time of the year again! Asian 5 Nations Top 5 is just around the corner & what’s the best thing to get into? let’s do some catching up with our National Men’s Team for Rugby — Philippine Volcanoes! :D
here’s the 10 Questions for Lolo Austin Dacanay!
“Being a Volcano finally validates all of the years of sports where I fought with the White, Black and Hispanic kids that I never fit in with, but tried so hard to. It has given me an identity that I am forever proud of, and that honestly, I’m ashamed not to have known much about until 2007. It’s something that I will pass on to the players that follow me, to my children, and every Filipino that I meet anywhere in the world until I’m gone. I’m proudly Pinoy, and that’s what it means to be a Volcano.” - Austin Dacanay, Philippine Volcanoes

“It’s sad when a player is constructively criticized by a fan that there’s room for improvement and the player replies ‘then don’t support’.” - Jaron Genota
Very true. I saw this “twitter banter” earlier and naturally, your instinct will tell you to defend your team but i went on reading the tweets, nothing was off in the fan’s tweet and the player (which i’m not dropping the name btw) just reacted badly over it coz he doesn’t fully understand what just the latter said. indeed, this player is notorious for bad temper & flaring nose.
Last night, we got lucky & won versus Myanmar. It is a friendly but still happy we won although we can say that it was such a scrappy way to win. Thank God we won (or else we might dropped down, AGAIN, in FIFA standings) but let’s not forget that one, we played bad. 1st half our defense was overly stretched and we just lacked ideas on how we can get the ball in. It wasn’t really a team effort. Two, its as if the stars & heavens conive coz we got really really luck last night, and three, we won because of 2 individuals and not really the team — OJ Porteria & Neil Etheridge. So Thank you to this 2 gentlemen, Etheridge for standing his ground firmly and managed to keep a clean sheet all through out the game (he’s the 2nd choice keeper of Fulham FC after all) and OJ for firing and getting on target in that lone goal.
So the next time a fan criticize you constructively, read, think before you click : )
been busy lately with work and footy training and missed posting on my tumblr. so to update you people on where or what i have been up to this past few months..
nothing much, really.. just conquered Mt. Pinatubo! :D stressed out over an inefficient travel agency, walked a total of 20 kilometers (double it coz its a trail walk) over barren trail full of sand, boulders, and what have you while carrying a big hiking bag that is (i think) 15 kilos heavy and you’ll be rewarded with… (see top & bottom picture) ^_^
“Hiking is not a battle between man and mountain; it is a struggle between man and his own self. And the ultimate victory is not reaching the top, but reaching beyond one’s limit.”
Happy Birthday, @eric_tai! :) (Taken with Instagram)
one of my Rugby mentor/coach! :) happy happy birthday Coach Eric. Missed seeing you on the pitch and in every Rugby 101 sesh in Ultra.
Thank you for being patient & kind to Rugby noobs like me. I’ve always believed that everyone can be a player/athlete but not everyone can coach coz it takes a lot of hard work, patience, & motivation to lead & coach people successfully, and i can honestly say you’re one of those who has that kind of ability. Thanks also for generously sharing all the things you know about Rugby to everyone. :)
my fondest memory w/ Coach Eric was when we were in one sesh of Rugby 101, i don’t know, i was spaced out and staring blankly on the pitch while everybody else were running around, passing balls then he shouted at me sayin’ “HOY YUNG MGA NATUTULOG SA PANSITAN DIYAN, TUMAKBO KAYO!!!” hahaha! man, that was scary but that’s how he train & push people for them to learn better. :)
continue to inspire people Coach Eric and enjoy your day! :)
